Schmid has been active in Milan's footwear and leader goods sector since 1942: established thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of Mr. Schmid, it soon became one of Italy's leading companies in footwear accessories and components. During the early 60s, in response to new developments in the footwear market, the company began to sell footwear fabrics, and embroidered fabrics in particular. Since then Schmid has created and marketed fabrics and similar materials for the footwear sector that are outstanding both in teams of design and technological content, contributing to the company's leading role upon the international haute couture scene.
