Schmid’s ‘tailor made’ service: a focus on glitter

Schmid’s “tailor made” service, the exclusive production of materials and finishings offered to certain clients, is being enhanced. Here are three recent examples: the creation of a special item for the espadrilles of the Spanish group Vidorreta and two interesting uses of glitter

From being traditional footwear without great pretense, espadrilles have become in the past years a fashion icon. The merit goes to the fashion brands that improved the quality of the product, cleverly blending craftsmanship and innovation. Among those brands stands out Vidorreta. For next season’s espadrilles, it has decided to use an exclusive material purposely conceived and created by Schmid. A special glitter enhanced with an embossed flower pattern, which makes it unique and inspired its name: Ramage.

Glitter used like a painter’s canvas

Inspired by action painting, made famous by Jackson Pollock in the 1950s, Schmid created a fine glitter using a dripping procedure. The thick drippings of colour on the glitter (used as a canvas) generate a dotted effect that is in contrast with the bright reflection of the surface.

Bright colours and airbrushing

Airbrushing glitter, instead, gives it a style that recalls street art. Here again, one can catch a glimpse of the brightness of this unique material through the sharp colours that decorate the surface, creating a pleasant contrast.

“Our ability to process glitter led us to achieve numerous ‘on demand’ projects, generating unique fabrics made studying new and exclusive processes,” explains Schmid’s chairman and CEO Paolo Ciccarelli. “We don’t just produce glitter, we make the best glitter available on the market, creating products that our competitors haven’t even imagined to make.”
