Expectations were fully met at the last Milanese edition of Lineapelle. And Schmid’s presence was a success. The main Italian trade show for leathergoods, footwear fabrics and accessories registered excellent results. According to data released by its organisers, the number of visitors grew 11% compared to the previous edition with a strong increase among foreigners (+15%), driven mainly by visitors from Russia, Turkey and Eastern Europe.

A positive result for Schmid

Also for Schmid, present since the inception of this important event, it was an unforgettable edition. Indeed, the number of visitors at the stand was high and the quantity of samples requested up 15%. “Lineapelle was a crucial appointment for us,” explains Melissa D’Innella, export sales manager at Schmid. “It enabled us to consolidate the relationship with clients and to meet new ones. We exchanged views with many industry players and listened to their observations, obtaining important input for the new F/W 2017-18 collection, on which we are already working.”

Great success for glitter, denim and velvet

But which of Schmid’s fabrics were most appreciated by the public? First of all, comes glitter, in its numerous variations. The focus was on its use with natural fabrics. Hot on glitter’s heels, was denim, with a remarkable success for the classic version and for its revisited versions with a modern and high tech spin, such as some of the items included in the S/S 2017 collection.
The request for velvet was also high after the rediscovery of this fabric by many fashion brands in the last two winter collections. Positive feedback for Gioia, the new 100% polyester stretch velvet used for booties and shoes that wrap up the foot like a stocking.

New natural products

Clients appreciated Schmid’s willingness to embrace products that are not part of its DNA, such as natural materials. “The market is going in that direction,” summarises Melissa. “One just has to bear in mind the espadrilles with a chic twist seen this summer. Schmid in an increasingly versatile partner, attentive to all clients’ needs and capable of grasping market trends and often anticipating them.”
