Schmid and Alice: social involvement is in fashion

Collaboration continues with the cooperative set up in the Milanese prison Casa Circondariale San Vittore

Schmid continues to support the social commitment of the Milan cooperative Alice. Established over a decade ago within the Milanese prison Casa Circondariale San Vittore with the aim of offering professional opportunities to inmates, the cooperative Alice counts on the contribution of two extraordinary designers: Ilaria Venturini Fendi and Rosita Onofri.

The cooperative’s collections are produced with tailoring techniques in workshops located in the prisons of Opera and Bollate, as well as in San Vittore, and garments and accessories stand out for their style, the quality of materials and the care taken in their preparation.

Inmates are now working on the creation of bags specially designed by Ilaria Venturini Fendi for the next National Congress of the CISL union, which will take place in May. About eight hundred of these bags will be produced.

Materials were supplied to the cooperative by Schmid, in line with the spirit of collaboration that has always seen the company committed to social projects involving professional training and the rehabilitation and reintegration of less fortunate people.

Rehabilitation, in this case, doesn’t only involve people, but also fabrics and other materials. Indeed, Ilaria Venturini Fendi, has for years created responsible fashion characterised by an ethical approach. The slogan of Carmina Campus, the brand created by the designer for her own line of products, is in fact “save waste from waste”, with the use of industrial materials, commonly considered disposable, as sources of inspiration and raw material for her collections.

Recovery of materials

Schmid shares this approach and is happy to contribute to this initiative, supplying the cooperative Alice vintage materials, samples and fabrics that for the fashion industry have concluded their life cycle.

The importance of social responsibility and professional training for Schmid is also highlighted by the fruitful and now well-established collaborations with groups like the London College of Fashion and Arsutoria and more recently, by the equally promising partnership with Milan’s Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera.

The clothing and accessories of the cooperative Alice can be purchased in its Milan boutique in Via Gaudenzio Ferrari 3.
